Yizani Sifunde Literacy Project

Liberty Community Trust (LCT) has partnered with three prominent NPO's that address literacy in the country, namely Nalibali, BookDash and WordWorks. Through this partnership, the LCT funds a literacy project called Yizani Sifunde (isiXhosa for ‘Come, let’s read’). The project is aimed at addressing the literacy problems in the Eastern Cape.

The project focuses on supporting children in Early Childhood Development Centres (ECD), along with educators and parents - to re-awaken a love for reading and storytelling in children. Yizani Sifunde works with 40 ECD centers in Queenstown, East London and Tsholomqa and injects 100 000 new culturally relevant storybooks in isiXhosa and English into these communities.
