Critical Illness cover options

Liberty offers a variety of options for Critical Illness cover.

Living Lifestyle

Our Living Lifestyle benefit aims to protect you against a critical illness leaving you in dire financial circumstances. The benefit provides a cash lump sum payout if you are diagnosed with one of the specified critical illnesses. The payout you receive is based on the severity of the condition suffered. The conditions covered are grouped into 31 different categories (called benefit categories) and include cancer, heart attacks and other heart diseases, strokes, eye and ear disorders and paralysis to name a few. We even include  a “Catch-All” benefit category to ensure that if you suffer a serious illness which is not specifically listed by the benefit, perhaps because it has not even been discovered yet, that you will still be covered.

The benefit has different cover options to suit your needs. For example, you can choose upfront to make the benefit more affordable by allowing any claim payments under the benefit to reduce the cover amount available under your life cover benefits on the policy, or you can choose a more comprehensive version called Living Lifestyle Plus where any payments under the benefit will not affect the amount you are covered for on your life cover benefits and you will have the ability to claim your full cover amount over and over again for future claims which are totally unrelated to your previous claims. You can also select whether your cover will end at age 65 or if you want the cover to continue for life!

You can increase the comprehensiveness of your cover by adding the Top-Up and Extended Options to your cover. The Top-Up option increases your claim payout to be 100% for certain conditions where you would have received a smaller percentage of your cover amount if the option had not been selected. With the Extended option, you will be eligible for additional smaller payouts for less severe conditions.

Our revolutionary Medical Advancements Protection (MAP) feature is automatically included free of charge. MAP  provides you with additional protection as it allows future claims to be considered for payment where certain elements of the original claims criteria of your policy (for example a specific test or procedure) have become outdated due to medical advancements.

Female Living Lifestyle

Even if a woman is in peak physical health at the time she falls pregnant, she still runs the risk of suffering complications relating to the pregnancy or the birth of her child.

Liberty’s specially designed Female Living Lifestyle benefit helps to protect against the financial impact associated with serious birth-related and pregnancy complications, and also covers major congenital birth defects. This benefit is taken in combination with either our Living Lifestyle or Living Lifestyle Plus benefit available on the Lifestyle Protector product.

Child Living Lifestyle

Liberty’s Child Living Lifestyle benefit has been designed specifically for children and provides you with some financial relief in the unfortunate circumstance that your child is diagnosed with one of 12 child critical illnesses. This benefit is taken in combination with either our Living Lifestyle or a Living
Lifestyle Plus benefit to provide a comprehensive lifestyle protection solution for you and your dependants.

ASISA Standardised Critical Illness Definitions Project (SCIDEP)

The Association of Savings and Investment South Africa (ASISA) requires member life insurance providers to state the payout that their critical illness benefits will provide using industry standardised definitions for cancers, strokes, heart attacks and coronary artery by-pass grafts at four different severity levels.

The tables below show the payout levels for the critical illness benefits available on Lifestyle Protector.
