Mandela Day 2016
18 Jul 2016
On Monday, 18 July, Liberty employees in JHB, CPT, DBN and PE once again heeded the call to "Take action and inspire change". In true Liberty style employees "Rolled up their sleeves" and used their 67 minutes to pack meals for children in support of Mandela Day 2016.
Liberty, in partnership with Stop Hunger Now, an international organisation that co-ordinates the packing and distribution of food, aimed to pack 90 000 meals, to distribute to Early Childhood Development centres across South Africa.
Over 1 000 employees participated in the event and exceeded all expectations by packing an incredible 209 500 food parcels. The packed meals will feed over 840 children five meals per week for an entire year.
The Liberty Africa countries also participated in Mandela Day by refurbishing school libraries and offering financial education to graduates.
